The Basque Country continues to reduce its energy consumption and increases its renewable power

Euskadi Energy Report 2023 The total demand for energy has fallen a little. Natural gas was the energy that experienced the biggest decline. Energy intensity has improved by 8 points, i.e. the energy needed to generate a unit of GDP. The presence of renewable energy is considerably increased by new solar photovoltaic installations. The energy bill has fallen, particularly in households.

The Basque Energy Agency brings together the Basque photovoltaic sector to promote the processing of new installations

200 industry representatives have been working together on new processes to make the connection to new installations more efficient. The Basque Self-Consumption Bureau is formed by the Associations of Installers, Iberdrola (i-DE) and the Basque Government. Self-consumption has increased significantly in the Basque Country with 2,161 facilities in 2023 and 830 in the first half of 2024.

The Basque Energy Agency and Repsol give new impetus to hydrogen mobility

IBIL, 50% owned by Repsol and the Basque Energy Agency (EVE), now deals with renewable hydrogen mobility. On the other hand, a new company will be created, EVsare, a subsidiary of IBIL, which will be responsible for the electrical mobility activity, and will be owned by Repsol at 100%. The new company will be formally established on 31 May and will be based in the Abanto-Zierbena Technology Park (Bizkaia)

BiMEP wins 2024 Innovation Award

The award was presented by the Association of Civil Engineers in recognition of BiMEP's contribution to the development of marine energy BiMEP has two separate test facilities, a wave power plant in Mutriku and an offshore site located off Armintza.  It is joint owned by the Basque energy agency (EVE), with a 75% stake, and the Spanish Institute for Energy Saving and Diversification, which has a 25% holding.

New aid for self-consumption facilities in the Basque Country by 2024

From 15 April with a budget of 8.5 M€ Those targeted specifically at the residential sector, both private individuals and residential communities of renewable energy and facilities not exceeding 25 kW. Renewable domestic thermal systems (geothermia, aerothermia, biomass and solar thermal) will also receive support in 2024 amounting to EUR 2,500,000.
