Presented the existing mechanisms to boost efficiency and energy savings in the industrial productive sectors
- The session addressed key levers such as public aid, PPAs and tax relief to improve industrial competitiveness.
- Leading companies have shared real cases of investment in energy efficiency and emission reduction.
The Basque Government, through its energy agency, the Basque Energy Agency, has presented the main levers that it makes available to the Basque industry as a whole to decarbonize its energy consumption and improve its competitiveness, based on aid for investments in energy efficiency, the CAES certificate system and tax deductions.
The institutional openness has been highlighted by the Deputy Minister of Industry of the Basque Government, Irantzu Allende, who highlighted the need to move towards a more efficient industry with lower energy consumption, something that in her words “is not an additional burden, but an opportunity to strengthen” to be more competitive. In the same sense, the general director of the EVE, Mikel Amundarain, who closed the day, has stressed the challenge of turning these necessary tools into a concrete work agenda for companies.
The Executive considers it a priority to accompany the industry in this transformative process through tools that allow to advance its intelligent decarbonization. For this reason, at the conference, held at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre, the trident of elements available to all companies and industries has been presented, such as aid for investments in energy efficiency, the Energy Savings Certificates CAE and tax deductions. In addition, the meeting has also incorporated the vision of the industry through the presentation of success stories starring companies that have already made investments and have shared their experience in the process of requesting aid and executing projects.
Existing aid to boost investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy and industrial decarbonisation is a true catalyst for business investment. With a global allocation of 52 million euros, this programme is aimed at companies in the industrial sector that undertake investments aimed at improving the efficiency of their production systems and processes, thus strengthening their competitiveness in a context marked by the growing weight of the energy bill.
These grants are part of the Executive’s strategic commitment to a more competitive, sustainable industry aligned with the objectives of the 2030 Industry Plan and its transformative projects, and address one of the main factors affecting the ability of Basque companies to compete in international markets.
The second mechanism of the program of the day has been the system of Energy Savings Certificates, which are fully implemented in the Basque Country with the EVE as managing agent, and which offer an excellent potential to monetize the energy savings generated in the industry field.
Finally, tax relief possibilities linked to investments in clean technologies, as well as tax instruments that favor the energy transition of the productive sector, investments in high-efficiency technology that can reach up to 35% tax relief, have been widely discussed.
