WindEurope Bilbao opens its doors today at Bilbao Exhibition Centre with over 400 exhibitors and about 12,000 participants. Three days will show the latest developments in the wind sector, with a broad programme of activities.

Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, accompanied by the Councillor for Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment of the Basque Government, Arantxa Tapia, and the Director-General of the Basque Energy Agency, Iñigo Ansola, has visited the pavilion of Basque wind companies to present products and services of value to the international wind sector.

The participation of Basque companies and the entire energy ecosystem of the Basque Country in this fair is a great contribution, and the EVE has a great presence through Basque Wind TV. On this television set, companies expand their activity and capabilities. This TV signal can be watched live at the fair and also on streaming on the energy agency’s website.

The annual event of the European Association WindEurope arrives for the third time in Bilbao, with previous editions in 2022 and 2019, with over 300 speakers and 350 exhibitors in the European wind energy value chain. This international event is held in a historical context due to the energy emergency. In fact, geopolitical tensions in Europe are open to the debate on energy supply, strategies and price definition. However, the wind sector is underlined by its growing optimism for the European wind industry, highlighting investments in new wind farms.

Basque companies with technological and industrial potential
Wind energy will be a key technology for the European energy transition and, in particular, to achieve the 40% contribution of the European Commission (EC) Fit for 55 scenario to reduce CO2 emissions by 55%.

Currently Europe has an installed wind power of 236 GW and covers 15% of electricity demand (25% for the Spanish electricity system). Meeting the EU 2030 targets should reach a minimum of 453 GW, 18% in offshore parks. This means that an average of 8.5 GW offshore will be installed per year by 2030.
In this context of market growth and technological challenges in the offshore environment, Basque wind companies have a great opportunity to strengthen and consolidate their good positioning.
