European Projects

CHARGE

CHARGE (Powering Green Transition) is a European project funded by the Interreg Europe 2021–2027 programme, led by the Baltic Institute of Finland, with the participation of the Basque Energy Agency (EVE) and partners from seven European regions. The project runs from 2025 to 2029.

The main objective of CHARGE is to improve regional policies related to batteries, promoting their innovative, safe and sustainable development and use, in support of the new EU Batteries Regulation and the transition towards a low-carbon circular economy. The project highlights the key role of batteries in renewable energy storage, grid flexibility and the stability of electricity systems.

The project also pursues the following specific objectives:

  • To foster interregional cooperation and exchange of good practices in the battery sector.
  • To strengthen regional battery value chains and ecosystems.
  • To enhance the capacity of companies, research centres and public authorities to comply with EU regulations.
  • To support the design of public policies promoting energy storage, grid management and circular economy solutions.

From the Basque Country, EVE contributes by aligning the outcomes of CHARGE with the Basque Energy Transition and Climate Change Strategy, reinforcing the role of batteries in the regional energy system.
