Mining Geological Service of the Basque Country
The activity carried out by the Basque Energy Agency has had a great technical impact throughout its history, and has given rise to an extensive knowledge of the geology of the subsoil of the Basque Country and of the Basque Cantabrian basin in general.
Primarily, the objectives of this Service are focused on four pillars:
- • Creation, maintenance and updating of the geological and mining documentary infrastructure of the Basque Country (geological and mining cartographies, geological and mining survey surveys, and databases with information on mineral, metallic and industrial indicators).
- • Research of mineral resources in the Basque Country.
- • Provision of technical assistance, advice and consultation services in geological and mining matters aimed mainly at the Basque Government, other Public Administrations (deputies and municipalities), as well as companies participating in the EVE (studies of risks associated with old mining structures, sectoral mining plans, publication through viewers of the mining cadastre, valuation of the geological and mining heritage).
- • Monitoring of seismic activity with the aim of knowing the base seismicity of the environment, providing geological knowledge of the subsoil of the Basque Country and being able to be of help in planning urban infrastructure.
Given the nature of all this information, it was necessary to develop a specific website that could host and disseminate this type of digital content. To this end, the Geominero Portal was created, a web in which all public information derived from the projects carried out by the Geological and Mining Service are made available to the Basque Government, public administrations, companies, universities and the general public
